Travel’s top social capital seekers: Tyson Mayr

tysonExploring the world, experiencing new cultures and most importantly, making a difference along the way, may seem like a dream to many of us. But Tyson Mayr, a travel series host and one of our featured social capital seekers, uses his social media to show the world that this dream can be a reality. As the ‘Best Job in the World’ winner, Tyson is a self-proclaimed “Adventure Addict,” making a living for himself one country at a time. Luckily for us, Tyson had a minute to spare while bringing clean water to the children of Africa to let us know why documenting his travels online is important to him.

What’s your take on the importance of documenting your travels using social media?

For me, sharing my travels was always my way of taking others, from around the world, with me on my journey.  Making them feel as though they were their experiencing it with me!

Now that I have reached nearly 200,000 passionate traveler followers, I am even more inspired to share my experiences with others, especially those who may not have the same opportunity as me to travel.  In an attempt to also provide inspiration for others to do the same.  One of my goals is to inspire people to chase their own dreams & not worry about expectations that society often places on you, sharing my passion for travels & new experiences is the best way I know how to do this.

In saying that, I am also a big believer of living in the moment.  So while I do find it is important for me to share my travels, some of my happiest moments have been those where a camera or iPhone is nowhere in sight & I am 100% living in that moment.

What’s important to you when you travel?

Keeping an open mind.  For me travel is all about new experiences.  By keeping an open mind, you will learn so much about the world, your place within it & even your own world.

How can travel companies appeal to travelers like you?

By being genuine & offering a unique service.  I am all about new experiences or sharing existing experiences in a new light, so for me I like to work with brands & companies that also follow that same ideology.
