Send travelers trekking on China Railway’s high-speed network

What’s longer than the Great Wall of China?: the world’s largest high-speed rail (HSR) network. Amadeus is proud to be the first travel technology company to distribute China Railway outside mainland China. Now North American travel agencies using Amadeus Selling Platform Connect can book and refund China Railway tickets in multiple languages.

Compared to the 13,000-mile Great Wall of China, this modern-day transportation treasure stretches 18,000 miles, reaches speeds of up to 217 miles per hour, and shuttled 3.37 billion passengers in 2018, an increase of 9.5% from 2017. Every day, nearly 3,000 bullet train routes connect more than 550 cities in 33 of China’s 34 provinces. In just 4.5 hours, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed train links the two mega-cities (819 miles apart), and the world’s longest HSR line is the Beijing-Hong Kong route that extends over 1,500 miles.

According to Travel China Guide, in 2018, passengers traveling by railway during Chinese New Year and National Day holidays reached 382 million, about 25 million more than the same period in 2017. During peak holiday periods, high-speed trains play a pivotal role in transporting passengers to and from major cities, offering North American travel agencies a prime opportunity to support their leisure and business clients traveling in China.

Another big plus for travelers who don’t speak the language: Amadeus enables travel agents to sell China Railway tickets to customers before they head to the country. Because travelers can purchase advance tickets through their agency of choice, they can enjoy greater peace of mind, knowing they can always turn to their trusted travel counselor for questions, changes or assistance.

With rail becoming an increasingly important part of the travel network in China and the Asia-Pacific region, Amadeus is committed to helping travel agencies and sellers meet traveler’s needs with connected, multi-modal options that maximize sales opportunities across different channels. This is a huge leap forward, and we are excited to bring China Railway’s offer to North American travelers destined for the most populous country on Earth.
